Iconic Album-Cover Kids: Where Are The Nirvana Baby, Korn's Little Girl And Others Now?

When Spencer Elden's parents agreed to let their friend, photographer Kirk Weddle, snap a whole roll of film of their infant son swimming underwater in a crystal-clear swimming pool, they couldn't have known that, eventually, more than 9 million people would own a picture of their naked son.

"Yeah, it's kind of creepy that that many people have seen me naked," Elden said. "I feel like I'm the world's biggest porn star."

While that might be a stretch, Elden has become something of a celebrity because of his appearance on Nevermind, and often sits for radio and camera interviews (he gets a fee for the latter) to discuss his life as the Nirvana baby. But otherwise, now-17-year-old Spencer is like most teens. He's about to enter his junior year at Eagle Rock High School in Eagle Rock, California, and works a typical high-school job at a local juice shop. He has aspirations of one day becoming an airline pilot; he surfs, snowboards and loves playing water polo.

"It's kind of cool, knowing that I've been on an album cover, but I feel pretty normal about it because growing up, I've always known I was the Nirvana baby," he said. "It never really struck me as like, 'Oh, sh-- — that's me on the cover.' It's always just been whatever for me. At the time, my parents didn't know who Nirvana was. No one really knew who they were. And then all of a sudden, it took off, and I just happened to be on the album cover." read more

Led Zeppelin reunion: Dave Grohl praises Jason Bonham

Drummer lives up to his dad’s reputation

Jason Bonham’s drumming with Led Zeppelin on Monday (December 10) has earned high praise from one of the world’s best sticksmen.

Bonham took over the drum stool from his father John, who died in 1980, for the reunion gig at the O2 Arena in London.

His work behind the kit went down well with the shows audience, including Foo Fighters’ frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl.

“That was amazing,” Grohl told The Sun. “Jason Bonham was fantastic on drums. I think he was even better than me.” read more

Legendary Seattle venue shuts its doors

According to the Seattle Post-Intellligencer, owner Stephanie Dorgan unexpectedly told club employees this past weekend that there was no need for them to return to work because she was shutting the club down...

'About a Son' lets Cobain tell his own story

Nirvana's leader gives one last performance in the documentary "Kurt Cobain: About a Son." Like the Oscar-nominated "Tupac: Resurrection," "About a Son" uses in-depth interviews to allow a dead music icon to tell his own story.

Cobain narrates the tale of his all-too-short life, musing on his successes, loves, letdowns, motivations and depression.

There's surprisingly little of the latter. Cobain doesn't come across as the whiny, glum drug fiend of reputation, but a cool, introspective dynamo who's got it all together.

Cobain breathtakingly spins tales from his youth - he came from a broken home and lived for a time as a drifter. He relives high school ostracism, admitting he fantasized about bringing a gun to school and laying waste to his classmates. For amusement, he allowed others to perceive him as gay. You get a real feel for Cobain as a brash young genius who channeled his insecurities into bleeding-soul grunge rock.

Nirvana 'Unplugged': intimate and revealing

The DVD release of the band's 1993 performance (including the part MTV cut out) is a moving look at singer Kurt Cobain.

"...Like much of the Seattle-based grunge scene of the early '90s, Cobain wrote about hypocrisy and apathy with an anxious urgency that was widely dismissed by older rock fans across the nation as the whining of a slacker generation that they saw as ungrateful and unmotivated.

I covered memorials for Elvis Presley in Memphis, Tenn., in 1977 and John Lennon in New York in 1980 for The Times and it was remarkable how different the mood was in Seattle during the memorial for Cobain in April 1994...."

Rolling Stone announced its top five grunge anthems, and the usual suspects all made the list. In the VH1 tradition of putting out lists instead of actual programming, Rolling Stone named these five songs as the best of the grunge era:

Courtney: We don’t want Kurt’s old shirts

Courtney Love is planning to auction most her late husband Kurt Cobain’s remaining belongings.

The singer, who recently revealed that her new album will be called ‘Nobody’s Daughter’, said her 14-year-old daughter, Francis Bean, didn’t need to inherit her father’s clothes and that more personal items will not be sold.

Okay, pick yourself up off the floor: HARP paid for our hardwood floors in the penthouse suite’s living room and foyer by flogging Nirvana memorabilia a few years ago and even netted a cool thousand for an original copy of the first Sub Pop 45. So in a world still gone Kurt mad, the seller here just might get that $40k.
